Updates

Breach Protocol updates ship as showcases rather than as a running commit feed. A write-up lands every few hundred builds — sooner when something significant is fixed. The in-game updater brings you to the current build automatically.

Update 3546 · 15 August 2026 · builds 2928–3546

Every match now has an ending

A winners circle, a match MVP and a rebuilt post-action report — plus positional audio that works for the first time, and a horde that no longer moves as one animal.

A round used to stop rather than end. The last kill landed, the screen changed, and a table of numbers appeared. Now the five operators who won it are staged outside the entrance with the match MVP for five seconds before anything else happens, and the report that follows has been rebuilt to fit one screen at any resolution rather than running its right-hand columns off the edge. The scoreboard was rebuilt alongside it for both modes, and it no longer rebuilds itself four times a second in the middle of a firefight.

You can hear the building now. Positional reverb had been silent in every build this game has ever shipped, which meant a corridor, a stairwell and an open street all sounded alike. It works. Footsteps and surface audio now ask the map what the ground actually is instead of guessing from the name of the collider under it, and 37 sounds that have shipped inside the game since the beginning without ever being played are now in use.

Outbreak's horde stopped marching. Every zombie was running the same clock, so a crowd moved like one animal on a grid. They now limp, stumble and trip on their own timing, and their legs stay under them. Crawlers are properly textured, their eyes read at distance, and the power switch is a power switch again rather than a purchase gate wearing one's name.

Two weapon faults that cost you rounds. The server was refusing a paid weapon's shots outright and pricing it at base damage, and a separate fault had it silently rejecting a third of another gun's magazine. Both are fixed. Furniture no longer stands in staircases, so the cellar routes on several maps are walkable again.

Your IP address is no longer broadcast to everyone in the match. It had been sent to every connected player on every join. Only the player currently hosting is reachable now, which is what a direct connection requires.

Everything in this update

  • Every match ends on the winners circle — five operators staged outside the entrance with the round's MVP — followed by a rebuilt post-action report that fits on one screen at any resolution
  • The scoreboard has been rebuilt for both modes, and no longer rebuilds itself four times a second mid-firefight
  • Positional reverb now works; it was silent in every previous build
  • Surface audio asks the map what the ground is rather than guessing from the collider name, and 37 shipped-but-never-played sounds are now in use
  • Outbreak: the horde no longer moves in lockstep — zombies limp, stumble and trip, and their legs stay under them
  • Outbreak: crawlers are properly textured, zombie eyes read at distance, and the power switch works as a power switch rather than as a purchase gate
  • Weapons: fixed a fault that made the server refuse a paid weapon's shots and price it at base damage, including one that silently rejected a third of its own magazine
  • Furniture no longer stands in staircases
  • Entering a round is faster — a stall of over a second on first spawn is gone
  • The main menu runs a live looped background, and no longer decodes a full-size image on the main thread every time you change tab
  • HUD icons hold their contrast against the world behind them, and six map cards that were not pictures of their own map have been replaced
  • Materials read correctly across the roster — corroded metal and rusted iron were being drawn in wood grain
  • Your IP address is no longer broadcast to everyone in the match; only the current host is reachable, which a direct connection requires

Update 2927 · 13 August 2026 · builds 2508–2927

The buildings are finished

Doors that swing, furniture you cannot walk through, and stairs you can climb — on every map. This update is about the parts of a building you only notice when they are wrong.

A tactical shooter is an argument about a building, and for that argument to work the building has to behave like one. Three things in it did not. Seventeen maps had open archways where doors belonged, so there was nothing to close, nothing to listen at and nothing to blow off its hinges. Most furniture had no substance at all — you walked through a filing cabinet the way you walk through fog. And a piece of trim above the doorways was clipping the height of every staircase in the game.

All three were fixed at the source rather than map by map: the builder now hangs real leaves in its openings, derives what is solid instead of reading a list, and stops the trim short of the step. Seventeen maps were re-baked against that and re-checked room by room — doors and furniture came out clean across the whole roster, and stairs across all but a handful of flights that are still being worked.

Recoil now climbs upward. It had been inverted — the gun's kick and the picture it gave you disagreed about which way was up. If the weapons have felt wrong to you in a way you could not name, this is why, and it is the single change most likely to alter how you shoot.

Outbreak has a voice. SIGNAL calls your waves, your power, your drops and the end of your run, and matchmaking now hands you Outbreak maps rather than dropping you onto a Multiplayer one.

Everything in this update

  • Maps that had open archways instead of doors now have real doors — 17 maps re-baked, with leaves that swing, block sight, and can be shot or blown off their hinges
  • Doorways you could not fit through are clear — the wall trim was running through 61 of them on Verdigris alone
  • Stairs climb properly across the roster again — a doorway header had been quietly cutting the step height on every map
  • Furniture is solid. You could previously walk straight through most of it, on every map
  • Recoil climbs upward, and the gun rises with it — it had been inverted
  • Cosmetics are worn at their authored size; paid items were shipping at half size and coming apart
  • Operator faces and gear are fully textured, including the items bought with credits
  • Outbreak: SIGNAL is the announcer, calling waves, power, drops and the end of your run
  • Outbreak: matchmaking hands out Outbreak maps instead of dropping you into PvP crossovers
  • Outbreak: a downed teammate can be revived — an enemy could defeat the revive fence a second after the down
  • Outbreak: the horde breaks into buildings again instead of piling at one door
  • The objective arrow draws over the weapon slots instead of hiding behind them
  • The HUD carries a round strip: one pip per round played, coloured by who won it and lettered with how
  • Winning the match follows your team through half time — the score used to follow your side of the map
  • Loading is smoother and the first breach no longer hitches — texture decoding moved off the main thread
  • Late joiners see doors in the state the round left them, the way the walls already worked
  • Leaving a lobby, the tutorial, or the terms screen asks first, and none of them strand you
  • The HUD Scale and HUD Display Area sliders take effect immediately
  • Menus ship their own fonts — 85 symbols used to depend on whatever the machine happened to have
  • Every download is published with the hash of the file you actually receive

Agent ID

Viper#7KM3

The half everyone sees. Say it out loud, post it, put it in a clip.

Signing key

On this machine

The half that authorises your account. Not shown anywhere, not sent anywhere.

Update 2507 · 12 August 2026 · builds 2438–2507

Your account is a key, not a name

Actions on your account are now signed by a key that never leaves your machine — so knowing your Agent ID is no longer enough to act as you.

Until now your Agent ID was both the name other players saw and the thing that proved an action was yours. Those are two different jobs and one string was doing both. Your machine now holds a private key, and the service checks a signature rather than a name. The half that identifies you is still safe to share; the half that authorises you never leaves the device.

Verdigris is back in rotation. A shelled state capitol — an octagonal rotunda under a verdigris dome holds the middle of the plan, with four radial halls running off it to two legislative chambers and a records vault in the crypt below. The only route from the cellar to the gallery floor crosses the rotunda twice.

Also in this update

  • The Terms of Service screen shows the terms. It opens on the full document, and asks again only when the terms actually change.
  • Your stats, inventory and loadouts follow you to a new machine, recovered with your Agent ID.
  • The reticle stays readable against light walls at every opacity setting.
  • Long names fit on both scoreboards instead of being cut off.
  • Settings → Account → Updates lets you ask for an update check and tells you the answer either way, instead of failing quietly.

Update 2437 · 11 August 2026 · builds 2136–2437

Your name is your own

Every player now has an Agent ID — a name plus a tag, like Viper#7KM3 — and nobody else can take the name you picked.

Names used to collide. Two players could both be Viper, and everything that identified a player by name — the scoreboard, the kill feed, a report — had no way to tell them apart. Names are now claimed first come, first served, and the tag after the hash keeps yours distinct even when someone else picks the same word.

Your login no longer travels with you. The identifier your account authenticates with is no longer sent to other players, shown on your ID card, or attached to a bug report. What other people see is your Agent ID, which is safe to share; what signs you in stays on your machine.

Also in this update

  • Team colours are yours to pick. Choose the friendly and enemy colours in Settings, and set how solid your reticle is.
  • Weapons go by their own names in the kill feed, the after-action report and the Barracks, instead of an internal label.
  • The Barracks follows your interface colour along with the rest of the menus.
  • Alerts and warnings no longer look identical. A warning you can act on and a message that is only telling you something now read differently at a glance.

Update 2135 · 9 August 2026 · builds 2035–2135

Seven maps out of the vault

Bank, Barleymow, Cornmarket, Lanternhall, Cinderfell, Inkworks and Dustwell are back in rotation.

These seven were pulled from the previous update on purpose. Each of them had a basement you could see and could not get to: the ground outside the building ran on under it and roofed the cellar stairwell, so the whole lower floor was cut off from the rest of the map. On the maps with a bomb site down there, that site could not be reached from any attacker spawn. A round could start that no attacker could win.

The building pipeline now cuts the exterior ground to the building's own footprint, and refuses to finish a map where anything outdoors is still sitting over a flight of stairs. All seven were rebuilt against that rule and re-checked room by room from every spawn before they were let back in.

Also in this update

  • Outbreak — Drownpoint. The barrier lamps were mounted relative to the wrong surface and floated. They now sit where the map says they sit.
  • Outbreak — ending a match. Leaving a match could leave the power switch and parts of the station set behind in the next one. Everything is torn down properly now.
  • Rotation. Fifteen maps are now selectable across Multiplayer and Outbreak.

Update 2034

The map standard

Maps stopped shipping on the strength of looking finished. Every map now has to prove, before it can be selected, that its floors tile cleanly, that no room is sealed, and that no doorway opens onto a stairwell void or lands on a wall junction where a breach would cut the building in half.

Eight maps failed that check and were held back rather than shipped — and the update said so at the time instead of quietly shrinking the rotation. Seven of them returned in 2135.

Also in this update

  • Match length. Competitive is a best-of-nine series, Casual a best-of-seven. Both are now a length that can actually resolve — the old pair could not.
  • Rebuilt from the vault. Gridlock became a traffic-control block, Lanternhall a civic art museum, Verdigris a shelled state capitol. Same names, new buildings.

Signatures that mean something

An operator's signature gadget is supposed to be the reason you pick them. Two of them were not doing that job.

  • Breaker now carries the thermal charge. The breach charge opens a soft wall and anyone can carry one; the thermal charge is the only tool in the game that opens reinforced steel. The hard breacher owns it.
  • Warden now carries deployable cameras, and nobody else may. Warden's previous gadget was shared with six other defenders, which meant it identified none of them.

A signature gadget that is not in its operator's normal pool is now offered properly in the loadout screen instead of being silently replaced at spawn — that quietly affected five operators.
